How ChessOmatics Tournament Works
ChessOmatics is a unique Learning Pawn format that combines Chess and Math into one competitive event. Players earn recognition in three categories: Chess, Math, and ChessOmatics (Combined).
1) What Happens During Each Round
- Chess Game: Players play a Swiss chess game using the posted time control.
- Math Challenge: Players complete a short math test (about 15 minutes) during the event.
- Each category has its own trophies: Chess, Math, and ChessOmatics (Combined).
2) Chess Category (Chess Awards)
- Pairings: Swiss System (players are paired each round based on score).
- Scoring: Win = 1 point • Draw = 0.5 • Loss = 0.
- Standings: Based on chess score and standard chess tiebreaks.
- Awards: Top Chess performers in each section receive trophies for Chess.
3) Math Category (Math Awards)
- Math Test: Score out of 50.
- Math Points: Your raw score is converted into Math Points (0.00 to 1.00) using the table below.
- Math Standings: Ranked by Math Points.
- Math Tiebreak Rule: If two players have the same Math Points, the higher Chess score will be used as the tiebreak.
- Awards: Top Math performers in each section receive trophies for Math.
| Math Score (Out Of 50) | Math Points |
|---|---|
| 50 | 1.00 |
| 45–49 | 0.75 |
| 35–44 | 0.50 |
| 25–34 | 0.25 |
| Less Than 25 | 0.00 |
4) ChessOmatics Category (Combined Awards)
ChessOmatics (Combined) rewards balanced performance in both Chess and Math.
- Chess Points: Based on Swiss chess results (Win = 1, Draw = 0.5, Loss = 0).
- Math Points: Based on the Math Points conversion table (0.00 to 1.00).
- ChessOmatics Score: Chess Score + Math Points
- ChessOmatics Tiebreak Rule: If two players have the same ChessOmatics Score, the event will use the same chess tiebreaks used for the Swiss chess standings.
- Awards: Top Combined performers in each section receive trophies for ChessOmatics.
