6-ROUND SWISS — FULL WEEKEND, USCF-RATED TOURNAMENT 

1. DATES & LOCATION

• SATURDAY, JANUARY 25 – SUNDAY, JANUARY 26
• LOCATION: LEARNING PAWN, 9706 FAIROAKS BLVD, FAIROAKS CA 95628

2. TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

• TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Individual Swiss
• TOTAL ROUNDS: 6
• ROUND TIMES: Saturday 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM 6:00 PM AND Sunday 09:00 AM, 1:00 PM 5:00 PM
• TIME CONTROL: G/90+5S INC (Game in 90 minutes with a 5-second increment after each move.)
• Games will be US CHESS regular-rated. Tournament results will be submitted immediately after the last round is finished.

 SECTIONS: OPEN AND UNDER1200.

          Pairings are based on the January 2024 supplemental regular us chess ratings.

          Unrated players can only play in the u1200 section. to request any change, please send email to learningpawn@gmail.com 

          with player’s last, first name and USCF ID. 

 

SCHOLASTIC SECTION – JANUARY 25

         TOTAL ROUND: 5

         SECTION: U300, U600, U1000

         ROUND TIME: 10:00AM, 11:20AM, 01:00PM, 2:30PM, 4:00PM

        TIME CONTROL: G30;D0

 

BLITZ SECTION – JANUARY 26

        TOTAL ROUND: 7

        SECTION: OPEN, U1000

        ROUND TIME: 7PM Onwards

       TIME CONTROL: G5;D5

 

3. BYES

    Byes are available for players in any round in case they can’t participate but would like to stay in the Tournament.

    A Maximum of 2 half-point byes can be requested in this tournament. Round 1-3 byes must be requested 30 minutes before 

    Tournament starts. Round 4-5 can be requested before round 3 start. 

    Late registrations will receive a half-point bye for any missed round, up to a total of 1 rounds.

4. PRIZE FUND

    Prize distribution based on a minimum of 20 entries per section

    Place        Open U1200  Blitz(Open) Blitz(U1000)

   1st Place   $350   $150     $50               $25

   2nd Place $200  $100     $25               $15

   3rd Place  $100  $50       $10               $5

   Additional cash prize distribution: if there are more than 20 entries in any section, 60% of the Additional entry fees collected

   will be distributed as bonus prizes, prorated across the placements. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing prize checks.

   PER IRS RULES Anyone with a cumulative $600+ prizes in any calendar year will need to fill out a w-9 form and Learning Pawn

   will be providing a 1099 form at the end of the calendar year.

 

5. REGISTRATION

ONSITE REGISTRATION: SATURDAY, JANUARY 25: 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM

ENTRY FEE: 

OPEN- $100 AND UNDER1200 – $70 

             SCHOLASTIC(U300, U600, U1000) – $50

             BLITZ – $10  BY JANURY 23RD After That $10 EXTRA. 

             Entry FEE needs to send through zelle or paypal with ‘for friends and family’ option to learningpawn@gmail.com

            Late Fee on the day of the Tournament: $20. 10% of entry fee will be charged for all cancellations & refunds.

            Free entry for gm/im/wgm/wims and 2300+ rated players by January 23.

6. ELIGIBILITY

     Players must have current us chess federation membership. expiration date of their us chess membership must be later than the

     last day of the Tournament. Not sure if you have a membership? need to check the expiration date of your members?

7. TOURNAMENT RULES

    Standard us chess rules apply.

    Forfeit time is 60 minutes. please be considerate of your opponent, and don’t be late! let us know if you can’t make it to one round!

 

8. FAQ

    WHAT DO THE TIME CONTROLS MEAN?

    The Time Controls tell you how much time you have for each Game. For Example, G/90+5INC Means Game in 90 minutes 

    with a 5-second increment with each move. This means you get 90 minutes, your opponent gets 90 minutes, and at each move

    5 seconds are added to your clock.

 

    HOW MANY GAMES/ROUNDS?

    The 6SS before the Time Control means there are six rounds or six games a player can play in the Tournament.

    The Tournaments are never elimination, so win or lose you can stay in the Tournament.
